Spring is in the air and I think all of us at Delta Secondary are looking forward to relaxing and having some “down time” over the break. Our return in April will bring us that much closer to the end of the school year.
Our second term report card was available on line through Student and Parent Connect on March 8th, Congratulations to all our students who achieved the Principals’ List, Honour Roll, and the G Club!
Recently, Mr. Todd Allan and Mr. Steve Cowan, the two chairpersons for our staff flex committee, presented the flex time proposal to parents for the 2018/2019 school year. Following Spring Break, there will be information assemblies for our grade 8-11 students. Any parents or students who have questions or comments should contact Mr. Allan, Mr. Cowan or one of the Delta Secondary administrators.
We had a very successful winter sports session with our basketball teams enjoying very competitive seasons. Thank you to all of our coaches for volunteering your time and energy and sharing your knowledge and experience to support our Pacer Players. A special thank you to our Pacer Alumni for your continued support of our students.
Our grade 8 – 12 students performed some fantastic acts at our grad fundraiser showcasing our students in the annual Talent Show. Thank you to Ms. Karen Tsui for all of your work with the student auditions and rehearsals. Another annual event, our DSS Famine, took place with over one hundred and twenty students participating. Together you raised $6,000.00 for an orphanage in Nicaragua! Thank you to Mr. Dobrovolny, our organizer, and to all staff who helped out with supervision.
This week was a big one at DSS. Our first ever Festival of Dangerous Ideas, FODI, took place in our Learning Commons. Gallery walks were held throughout the week in addition to an evening open house for parents and friends. This was an amazing opportunity for our students to share their knowledge and learning of their dangerous idea. Thank you to Ms. Marie Bonardelli, Ms. Dana Huff, Ms. Heather Loiselle and Ms. Pam Mann for spearheading this exciting new event at our school.
Following FODI, many people made their way to our Pacer Pop concert where Ms. Catherine Campbell and our music students put on a very entertaining and enjoyable concert. The next evening, our Dance Academy students and Ms. Rebecca Salton impressed the audience with an enthusiastic and fun recital that showcased their talents and some highlights of the school year. Thank you to everyone involved!
In closing, I wish all of you at Delta Secondary a relaxing and safe spring break. Enjoy your time with family and friends and I hope you return to school with renewed energy to finish the year on a successful high note!
Ms. Jeanette Beaulieu
